10th Annual Tournament:

The 10th Annual Mako Mania Tournament was held at Bahia Marina on June 2, 3, & 4th.
It was followed by an Old Fashion Pig & Beer Butt Chicken under the tents given by Fish Tales.

43 Boats and 180 Anglers entered this year’s Tournament. We also had 10 boats register for the OC Sharker of the year added entry, which combines the Mako catches and releases from the Mako Mania and the OC Sharker Tournament. If you caught the new MD State Record Mako Shark you could win a 2006 Grand Cherokee provided by Barrett Chevrolet.

At the end of the first day the scales were set high with a 602 lb Mako coming to the dock. At the end of Sunday at 7:30 p.m. when scales closed; 1st place went to The Marli, Captain Mark Hoos and Angler Scott Johnson with a 602 lb Mako – $18,333.50. 2nd went to Black Flag, Captain Bill Mullinix and Angler Keith Puller with a 200 lb Mako - $3,613.50. 3rd went to Mojo, Capatin Joe O’Boyle and Angler Denise Huff with a 160.5 lb Mako - $9,495.60. 4th went to Jezebel, Captain Chester Sedowski and Angler Frank Stevernagle with a 155.5 lb Mako - $4,724.40. Also we had a four way tie for the biggest Bluefish, which weighed in at 11.5lbs - $2,174.00. All four taking first place: Shark Tooth: Captain Kurt Howell and Angler Bruce Darling, Ware Dancer: Captain Shane McGinnis and Angler Gary Sappington, Three’s Enough: Captain Mike Keville and Angler Brett Salkeld, and Bottomline: Captain Chris Graham and Angler Troy Miller. An additional $1,000.00 went to the Jezebel for the most released (16) for the W W Harman Award presented by Kathleen Harman in honor of her late husband. The total payout for the tournament was $44,863.00

At the awards Joshlyn Harman, Earl Conley, and Ben Green (The Tournament Directors) thanked all the sponsors: Harborside, ABC Printers, Black Diamond Builders, Tony’s Pizza, Rocky’s Electric, Budweiser, Ripley’s Believe it or not, Delaware Elevator, and last but not least Bahia Marina & Fish Tales.

The 9th Annual
Mako Mania Shark Tournament

The 9th annual Mako Mania tournament was held at Bahia Marina on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday June 3, 4 & 5th followed by the awards banquet at Phillips Seafood Restaurant..

At the banquet a special moment of recognition was given to Dale Timmons of the Coastal Fisherman for his 30 years of covering fishing events in Ocean City. Dale and his trusty camera has captured hundreds of thousands of memories for us and we all wish him tight lines and good health during his retirement.

53 boats and 223 anglers entered this year's tournament. We also had 15 boats register for the O.C. Sharker of the Year added entry which combines the Mako catches and releases from Mako Mania and the O.C. Sharker Tournament. Due to a shortage of Mako sharks no points were earned during the Mako Mania tournament this year.

At the end of the second day of the tournament nearly 50 Blue Fish were brought to the scales but no sharks. Finally at 4:15 on Sunday team Canyon Blaster from Bahia Marina brought a 133.3 Mako to the scales. As a result this Mako took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Mako Category and Kurt Howell of Fallston, MD, on board the Canyon Blaster took home the First Place Trophy for the tournament along with 1st, 2nd & 3rd place $19,000 prize money and added entry money for the $100 added entry. An additional $1,000 for the "W. W. Harman" award presented by Kathleen Harman in honor of her late husband.

The Second place trophy for the tournament went to Michael Keville from Gambrills, Md. on board the Buck Bomb for a 12.4 lb. Blue Fish. Buck Bomb took home $5200 1st place in $500 added entry, $5200 for 1st place in the Blue Fish added entry and $3700 for the Thresher added entry as no Thresher sharks were weighed. Total winnings $14,100.

The Third place trophy for the tournament went to Brian Graham from Red Lion Pa. on board the boat Bottom Line for a 12.1 lb Blue Fish. Their winnings included $7850 for 1st place in the $500 added entry and $3100 for 2nd place in the $300 added entry plus $2800 for the 2nd place in the Blue Fish added entry. Total winnings $13,750.

Team Ocean Treasure took home $4700 for 2nd place in the $500 added entry and $2100 for 3rd place in the $300 added entry added entry totaling $6,800.00 for their 11.3 lb. Blue fish.

Team Hookin'Wubbas took home $3,150 in third place money in the $500 added entry for a 10.8 lb Blue Fish.

A total of $56,800 of prize and added entry money for Mako Shark, Thresher Shark and Blue Fish was distributed to the winners.
